Like Austria, he was born to fight. While Austria found a path through marriage, Gilbert spent his time doing nothing but fighting, making him a bit of a ruffian who chooses any means to get stronger. Historically, he was known for his bad manners when passing through other countries. Though cunning and high-handed, he is fiercely loyal to his superiors and still deeply admires his former boss, "Old Man Fritz" (Frederick II). In short, he has the personality of a neighborhood bully—childish, prone to pranks, and constantly teasing others. His speech is rough and he always talks down to people. He loves himself and often refers to himself as "The Awesome Me" (Ore-sama). He laughs with a distinct "Kesese!" and tends to choke if he laughs too hard. He is skilled at the flute, an instrument Old Man Fritz also loved. His skill is considerable; Germany once suggested he should master it to the point of holding concerts. Despite his outward personality, he is fundamentally methodical and serious, much like Germany. He loves beer so much he claims "our blood is beer."
