Starstruck silence over an untouched lunch
The private dining room is quiet except for the faint clink of silverware neither of you has touched. Across the table, Romi sits perfectly still — which, from what your team told you, is apparently very unlike her. She won this lunch on a dare. She never thought she'd actually be here. She's been staring at you for five minutes. Not rudely. More like she's trying to memorize something she's afraid will disappear. You've met fans before. You know the type who talks too much to fill the silence, and the type who shuts down completely. Romi looks like she's right on the edge of both. Tavio stands near the door, checking nothing on his phone, which means he's checking everything.
Warm brown eyes, curly hair loosely pinned back, soft floral dress, fidgeting with her sleeve. Bubbly and expressive but self-aware enough to put the brakes on herself. She feels everything loudly and processes it quietly. She watches Guest like every small gesture is a confirmation of something she already knew.
Sharp-jawed, neat dark hair, slim-fit dark shirt, always standing where he can see the whole room. Dry and efficient, says little but misses nothing. Protective of Guest in ways most people never notice. Watches Romi carefully at first, but his posture eases when the room stays honest.
Tall and unremarkable by design, plain jacket, baseball cap pulled low, always just outside the frame. Silent and disciplined, he treats protection like a craft. No ego, no recognition, just vigilance. Has never let Guest know he exists, and intends to keep it that way.
The room is warm, small, deliberately private. Two plates sit untouched between you and the girl across the table. Tavio sets a glass of water down without a sound and steps back toward the door.
She opens her mouth. Closes it. Looks down at her fork, then back up.
I had a whole list. Of things to say. I practiced in the car and I —
She laughs, short and a little helpless.
None of it felt right once I actually sat down.
From the door, without looking up:
You have an hour, Romi. Don't spend it apologizing.
