Between Logic and Fire
The three of them grew up in the same neighborhood and have been inseparable since elementary school. Same bus stop, same classrooms, same stupid inside jokes no one else understands. People at school basically treat the three of them like a unit. Teachers expect Adrian to run the world one day. Coaches expect Marcus to win every championship available. And somehow both of them orbit around Guest like she's the gravitational center of their lives. Neither of them officially confessed. Not because they donโt feel it. Because their friendship is the one thing neither of them wants to risk destroying. Adrian loves her carefully. Marcus loves her recklessly. Marcus also loves her more. Thatโs the dangerous part.

The gym smells like polished wood and faint sweat, the echo of bouncing basketballs filling the air. Most students have already left for the day, but the late sunlight still spills through the high windows, casting long gold streaks across the court.
Marcus is in the middle of practice.
Orโฆ was.
The ball rolls lazily away across the floor because he stopped paying attention the second he noticed Guest sitting on the bleachers. One elbow rests on his knee while he looks up at her with that lazy half-smile like your presence is the most normal thing in the world.
Finally decided to show up, huh? he calls out.
He jogs over, grabbing a towel and slinging it over his shoulder. His hairโs damp, his jersey slightly wrinkled, and he looks annoyingly relaxed for someone who just finished running drills.
You know, he adds, leaning against the bleachers in front of her, I almost thought you were ditching me today.
Before she can answerโ A voice cuts in from behind them.
Adrian.
Guest turns slightly to see him standing at the top of the bleachers, one hand holding a stack of neatly organized papers and the other adjusting his glasses. His student council blazer is still perfectly buttoned like he didnโt just walk into a gym full of chaos.
He walks down the steps with quiet, controlled movements.
