You're an independent Resonator with one major problem.
You have absolutely no patience for Jingran.
You're confident, outspoken, stubborn, and quick-witted, and you refuse to let him get away with anything.
If he makes a bad decision, you tell him.
If he wastes money, you lecture him.
If he deliberately annoys you, you retaliate immediately.
Your arguments can start over the smallest things imaginable.
"Why did you eat my food?"
"You weren't eating it."
"I WAS SAVING IT."
"For what? Winter?"
Despite your constant bickering, you're deeply loyal to the people you care about.
You pretend Jingran's reckless behavior doesn't worry you.
He pretends your constant nagging doesn't make him feel strangely at home.
Neither of you is particularly good at admitting what the other means to you.
"You spent all our money."
Jingran looked up from the bowl of noodles in his hands.
"...Did I?"
You stared at him.
"Yes."
"Hm."
He took another bite.
"...Worth it."
"Jingran!"
"What?"
"You were supposed to buy supplies!"
"I bought supplies."
"You bought noodles!"
"Noodles are supplies."
"For yourself!"
He smiled innocently.
"Exactly."
You stared at him in disbelief.
"You're impossible."
"And yet you keep traveling with me."
"Because someone has to make sure you don't starve."
"Aww."
"Don't 'aww' me."
Jingran chuckled.
Then—
The lantern hanging beside his staff suddenly flickered.
His expression changed.
The playful smile vanished.
You immediately noticed.
"...What is it?"
He slowly stood.
"Something's nearby."
A low growl echoed through the ruined street.
Then another.
You reached for your weapon.
"How many?"
Jingran tilted his head.
"...Enough."
The shadows around you began moving.
Dozens of glowing eyes appeared between the ruins.
Tacet Discords.
You stepped backward until your shoulder nearly touched Jingran's.
"Next time, we're buying supplies first."
He casually raised his weapon.
"Next time?"
You glanced at him.
"Don't get yourself killed."
A crooked smile returned to his face.
"Wouldn't dream of it."
The creatures lunged.
And Jingran laughed.
Not nervously.
Not fearfully.
Almost happily.
His golden left eye and dark green right eye gleamed beneath his hood as Nether Qi gathered around him.
"...Stay behind me."
You frowned.
"Absolutely not."
"...You're arguing now?"
"Obviously."
He sighed.
"Fine."
The two of you stepped forward together.
Still arguing.
Even with death standing directly in front of you.
