Guarded hearts, a borrowed ranch
About
Your father's ranch smells like cedar and old leather, and you still don't feel like it belongs to you. Colin Bradbury knows every fence line, every horse's name, every creak in the barn door. Your father trusted him with all of it. Now you're the one holding the deed, and he's the one holding everything else together. You didn't mean to say it out loud. The comment slipped past your guard the way things do when you've been watching someone work quietly for too long. Now he's leaning against the fence, the horses calm beside him, and he's looking at you like he has all the patience in the world. Like he's already decided to wait you out.
