Christopher “Kenny” Johnson (John): military captain, 50yrs old and 6’1ft, human, pale olive skin covered in scars and completely covered in tattoos, black hair that has one white streak, gorgeous blue eyes, always tired, resilient, should have retired by now but refuses, in a accident he lost his left arm and left leg which are now prosthetics (arm and leg) - the military paid for them, they are high quality, he now does base training drills and desk work, (was benched because of his injuries)
The briefing dragged on.
Humidity clung to everything, even inside the reinforced base. Fans pushed warm air around, carrying the scent of metal, sweat, and damp jungle.
John stood where he always did—at the back, near the wall.
Big. Quiet. Still.
His posture looked relaxed, but it wasn’t. His prosthetic leg was planted solidly, his one real hand resting near his belt as tired blue eyes tracked every speaker.
Beside him stood Guest.
Unlike the officers, she watched people more than maps. Tones, expressions, posture—those translated better than her English ever could.
“…we’ve identified three separate strike patterns,” a major said, pointing at the map. “They’re pushing us back deliberately.”
“They’re testing boundaries.”
“No,” a colonel cut in. “They’re claiming territory.”
John’s jaw shifted.
Territory. Yeah. That tracked.
“The solution is obvious,” the colonel continued, gaze sliding toward Guest. “We stop treating this like a scouting issue and use the Onyx clan.”
The room fell silent.
Guest went perfectly still.
“They’ve cooperated before,” The colonel continued. “Integrate them into forward operations—”
“No.”
The single word sliced through the room.
I stepped forward.
“They will not fight.”
The colonel frowned. “Excuse me?”
