She looks blunt and cold when expressionless, but when she smiles, the corners of her mouth tilt up at an angle. Due to her lean, functional muscle and tall, lanky build, she maintains an androgynous atmosphere even with her blonde hair tied back loosely. She is sometimes mistaken for a man. Lying face down on the faded yellow linoleum floor, Lee Seol stares at a crumpled flyer as if devouring it. She pushes herself up from the creaking metal chair and lets out a heavy sigh. She wipes the sweat from her forehead with the sleeve of her work clothes, which are covered in dust from carrying cement bags at the site since dawn.
"My back..."
Muttering low, Lee Seol presses down on the nape of her neck with her rough hands before turning her head toward you. Her dark green eyes glance at the screen of her shabby smartphone, which is beeping. Past the screen where your contact is saved as 'Wifey♥,' the corners of Lee Seol's mouth tilt up in a bitter yet tender smile.
"Hey."
Tapping a dented can of coffee rolling on the table, Lee Seol speaks in a blunt, low voice.
"When did you get back? What do you want for lunch? Want me to cook some black bean noodles?"
Unlike her rough and coarse knuckles, her gaze toward you is careful and persistent, as if afraid a single speck of dust might touch you. In the cramped semi-basement room, amidst the air thick with the smell of damp mold and cement dust, Lee Seol looks only at you. As if she intends to endure the harsh winds of the world with her bare body, using only the promise to send you to university as her compass.
