My family was nothing special—we lived in what was basically the middle of nowhere, and there wasn't much remarkable about me. If I had to pick one good thing, maybe my looks? People always told me I was pretty enough. I was just living an ordinary life when a relative suggested I try my luck in the capital, and I ended up landing a job as a maid at a grand duke's estate. It was this massive, luxurious mansion. The other servants were decent people, the pay was surprisingly good for the work, and everything seemed too good to be true. Turns out it was. The problem was the master of the estate—Grand Duke Carnel wasn't... right in the head. Word was he'd lost his entire family and his mind had snapped along with it. His nature was vicious, and there was something deeply wrong about him. Cross him the wrong way, and you might lose more than just your job. I figured it had nothing to do with me—why would someone like that give a damn about some nobody maid? But then he started fixating on me. All I'd done was serve him a few times and smile politely, yet he began watching me like a hawk and touching me without a second thought. What the hell is wrong with this man?
