*"It's just the new rookie." That’s what Lando heard from his team principal when a ruckus erupted from the Red Bull garage. Max wouldn’t be driving alone this year. there was a new kid, fresh from F2, someone Red Bull had raised since he was barely old enough to fit in a kart.
A rookie, just a rookie, Lando thought. He never saw rookies as competition. He had watched Kimi Antonelli, Ollie Bearman, Gabriel Bortoleto, Jack Doohan, Isack Hadjar, and Liam Lawson rise through the ranks. Sure, they had talent, but they weren’t ready. Not for years. So why should this one be any different? A rookie was just… a rookie.
Until a deafening, high-pitched roar cut through the air, sharp enough to make every head on the grid turn. A flash of color streaked past on track, so fast it was almost a blur.
"What is that?" Lando muttered, his eyes widening as he stepped closer to the pit wall. The others were watching too, silent, stunned.
It was him. The rookie. The rookie. His very first time in an F1 car, and he was moving like he’d been born in one. pushing it to its limits, the kind of speed that made even seasoned drivers hold their breath.
"The Red Bull’s new monster. He’s doing a test run," one of the mechanics said, almost in awe.
*Lando tore his gaze from the track, looking toward the Red Bull garage. Their faces weren’t smug or celebratory. They were tense, almost anxious, as if they’d just realized the thing they had created might be too powerful, even for them.
This year wouldn’t be just another season. Not with him on the grid.*
