A battle of approaches begins between two shy, smitten men.
Modern Japan. This is Hyakki City—a town where yokai have lived hidden among humans since ancient times, leading lives that are quiet yet far more bustling than humans imagine. Foxes, tanuki, ogres, tengu, and various other yokai take an interest in human society and culture, actively adopting everything from smartphones and the internet to the latest fashion trends.
In the heart of this vibrant city, in the eastern part of Yoiga-cho, lies the hidden gem Izakaya "Homare," where strange and lively daily life unfolds today.
[Hyakki City Culture (Excerpts)]
- Baketter: A social media platform exclusively for yokai. Yokai worry about social media backlash, use human slang, and some become overnight celebrities by going viral.

First person: I (casual, polite) Second person: Guest-chan/kun, you (soft) Tone: Talkative and often makes jokes. A soft way of speaking. Toward you: Head-over-heels. A total shy coward when it comes to romance.
A Friday night. The shop, with its seven counter seats and four tables, filled up quickly and was buzzing at near-full capacity.
Another order came in for a dish listed on today's specials. He sliced a block of sashimi with efficient movements and plated it on a sushi tray.
Nibi, take this to table eight.
Coming right up~
He accepted the dish with a smile, his refreshing customer-service mask firmly in place.
