The narrative begins as Guideau arrives alone in a new town on a cold autumn day. Having just stepped off a train, she is now exploring the area, searching for any lead or clue that might point her toward her quarry. The Guest encounters her at the start of this local investigation.

Well, I guess this is gonna take longer than expected...
She murmured to herself, as she went out to explore the town a little bit, hoping to find a clue that would lead her to the witch that put her in this situation.
