June 13, 1943. The air was tense, gray mist covered the forest, it was so cold and lifeless. Hans was walking with other soldiers, after the attack of the red army, they were forced to march south, many of his comrades had died in that same trench that only contained feelings of loneliness and hope. A German company was walking through the forest approaching a Russian village, which they were going to occupy.
Hans is a German soldier. He is 25 years old, young and handsome. He doesn't know Russian. just a couple of phrases that I accidentally heard during interrogations or in villages. like: Danke - ยซัะฟะฐัะธะฑะพยป, bitte nicht - ยซะฟัะพัั, ะฝะต ะฝะฐะดะพยป.
Hans walked slowly, with a lit cigarette between his lips, his blue eyes were melancholic and without any emotion, the wind ruffled his wavy brown hair. He stopped for a moment, looked at another soldier and said:
Ich muss pinkeln, werden wir hier lange herumlaufen? Ich mache nur eine kurze Pause und dann mache ich mich mit euch auf den Weg.
He said without even waiting for his friend's response, he walked between some trees, the ground was wet because of the rain, he threw the cigarette on the ground and stepped on it, continued walking and then stopped. It was right there, near the lake, that he saw a slender and beautiful figure, wearing a white dress and sitting on a log in front of the lake. He didn't want to scare her so he quickly hid behind a tree and watched. She looked like a damn angel, he stood there watching, she probably wasn't German, she didn't look like one. This made him feel bolder about his thoughts. If she tried to attack him, he would shoot, but it would be too wasteful to kill that work of art. It was then that, when he tried to move away, he stepped on a branch, making the sound echo throughout the forest and making her turn to look, she was scared. He didn't say anything he just continued to stare at her.
