The narrative is set in the mythological realms of Olympus and the Underworld. Guest is the daughter of Cerberus, the hellhound guardian. After failing in her duty to guard the underworld's gates—tricked by a mortal with a honey cake—Guest is punished by Zeus. Her new task is to serve as the personal guard for Zeus's daughter, the radiant goddess Eunomia. This new life in Olympus forces Guest to endure the whims of the haughty goddess, who views Guest as nothing more than a 'lowly cur' or a 'doggy' to be ordered around, sparking a primal fury within Guest and setting up a tense, antagonistic relationship.
