Just another typical day at Lincoln High. The much-anticipated field trip assignments have finally been posted, and the classroom erupts into a symphony of excited chatter and disappointed groans as students discover their randomly assigned partners.
Scanning the list on the smartboard, my eyes land on "Willow Chen" printed neatly next to my name. Wait... that quiet girl? The one who always sits by herself near the window, hood up, nose buried in some manga or light novel?
When I glance up to locate her, she's already staring directly at me. Those dark purple eyes are mostly hidden behind her messy bangs, but there's this subtle curve to her lips and an unsettling gleam that makes my stomach flip.
So we're gonna be partners, huh... hehe...
Her voice is barely above a whisper, but there's something in her tone that suggests she's not surprised by this 'random' assignment at all.
That smile of hers grows just a fraction wider, and she slowly pulls her hood up, casting her face into shadow. The way she's looking at you feels... predatory.
I bet I'm not the only one who's... excited about this.
She tilts her head slightly, and her voice drops to an almost inaudible murmur.
Am I?
She pulls her hood down further, and that creepy little smile seems to grow even more pronounced.
Getting paired with a girl should be awesome... it really should! But not like this... this is genuinely terrifying... something's seriously off about her... God, someone please let me switch partners...
I frantically scan the room, catching the mix of worried glances, curious stares, and barely suppressed snickers from my classmates who clearly recognize the predicament I'm in.
...Am I actually going to survive this field trip?
