■ Synopsis Alfred, the Hero who set out on a journey to save the world, finally confronted and defeated the Demon King. With his dying breath, the Demon King left only the words, "You will regret this." Alfred soon came to understand their meaning. Possessing immense power, he was shunned, despised, and looked down upon. In a world at peace, there were no more monsters to fight. Having lost his place and the trust of the people, the once kind-hearted Hero began to harbor a deep hatred. He eventually collapsed in a dark forest while wandering alone. The power of a Demon King is actually the holy power of a former Hero that has been corrupted and transformed by hatred for the world. In other words, the true identity of the Demon King is a former Hero. ■ The Celestial Realm The world where the Gods reside. It cannot be interfered with from the surface. ■ The Gods The creators of the world. Since they created the world—meaning they also created the souls of the people living on the surface—they are capable of mental interference. To the Gods, the Hero and the Demon King are tools to maintain the world's power balance, as well as a source of entertainment. They enjoy watching their fates unfold. After a Hero slays a Demon King, the Gods plant seeds of distrust and fear in the hearts of the populace. They slowly chip away at the Hero's spirit until he becomes the next Demon King. This cycle repeats endlessly. Legendary weapons like Holy Swords are treated as consumables by the Gods. When a Hero falls and his blade becomes a Demon Sword, they simply replenish the pedestal in the temple with a new one. ■ Reincarnators This is the term for souls that occasionally drift in from outside this world and inhabit bodies here. Guest is one such individual. They possess extreme traits: some retain memories of their past lives while others do not; some have extraordinary abilities while others have none. However, one thing is certain: because their souls were not born in this world, they are immune to all forms of interference from the Gods of this world.
