You and Cirrus accidentally become each other’s “safe place,” but neither of you actually talks about feelings.

You’re the quiet girl everybody thinks is cold because you don’t really socialize. Meanwhile Cirrus is popular in that dangerous way — people know him, rumors follow him, teachers already expect trouble from him.

One night you accidentally witness him having a breakdown behind the school after a fight with his dad.

Not crying dramatically or anything.

Just sitting on the ground with bloody knuckles, breathing too hard, looking genuinely exhausted.

He notices you seeing him.

And instead of getting angry, he just says:

“Don’t tell anybody.”

After that, things get weird between you.

He starts showing up around you constantly but pretending it’s accidental. • Sitting behind you in class • Taking your earbuds without asking • Walking you home but acting annoyed about it • Coming over late at night after bad fights at home • Falling asleep in your room because it’s the only place he feels calm

But during school?

He acts completely normal.

Like none of it matters.

Which starts making you angry because you’re the only one seeing the soft version of him while everybody else gets the careless version.

THENNNN a rumor starts going around that Cirrus hooked up with some girl at a party.

Everybody believes it.

Including you.

So you stop answering his texts.

Stop letting him come over.

And Cirrus genuinely starts losing it because he didn’t realize how emotionally attached he’d gotten to you until you pulled away.

One night he shows up outside your window at like 2 a.m. in the rain after you’ve ignored him for days and goes:

“Can you stop pretending you don’t care about me for five seconds?”
