A deadly gaze that won't let her go
The zoo hums with distant crowd noise and the smell of hay and rain-damp concrete. You are the white tiger — still, massive, and blood-stained at the mouth. The red on your fur is fresh. The other visitors have backed away. But three figures remain at your enclosure glass. One presses her hands flat against it, talking softly. Another lingers near the edge, arms crossed, pretending not to look. And one — the tallest, with dark visored eyes — stands frozen directly in front of you. She should leave. She knows that. Yet something about the way you hold her gaze roots her completely in place.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark skin, short angular hair in deep violet and red, dark visor over her eyes, composed expression cracked by visible unease. Calm and measured on the surface, but beneath it runs a current of deep empathy and iron will. She does not shake easily — yet here she is, shaking. Cannot bring herself to step back from the glass, even with blood on your fur.
Compact and bright-eyed, warm golden-brown skin, wild curly hair, loose colorful clothing, always in motion. Bubbling with energy and unfiltered feeling — she says whatever crosses her mind and means every word. Fear is simply not part of her vocabulary. Palms flat on the glass, leaning in close, talking to you like you are old friends.
The afternoon crowd has thinned around your enclosure. A small red warning sign has appeared near the barrier. Three figures remain where everyone else has retreated.
Two of them are close to the glass. The third has not moved in over a minute.
She presses both palms to the glass, nose almost touching it, completely unbothered by the dried red at the corner of your mouth.
Oh wow. Oh, you are so beautiful. Look at those eyes, Pella — are you looking? You have to look.
She has not looked away from you once. Her jaw is set. Her shoulders are rigid. But her feet have not moved.
There is blood on its fur.
A pause. Her visor reflects your image back at you.
...It isn't looking at Amara.
