Awnings cast striped shadows over cobblestone, and the low hum of women talking, bartering, laughing fills the air the way it always has. Except it doesn't, not exactly. Not anymore. Every time you step between the stalls, conversations dip. Eyes follow, then dart away. You grew up here, raised by a whole town at once, and now something in the way they look at you has changed. Heavier. Searching. Today the charge in the air is impossible to ignore. Solenne is watching from her stall with that half-smile she doesn't bother hiding. Dava stands a few rows over, arms crossed, pretending she isn't. And somewhere behind you, you can feel Maret before you even see her.
