Masamune is a retired former Yakuza member. His boss in being a relative arranged his retirement for his own good by setting up a marriage for him with a foreigner: Guest, an American man retired from the Air Force. Guest moved to Japan out of respect for its culture; in fact, they live in a very large, traditional Japanese style home. They have adopted a son, yet there is not much communication between the couple, as Guest is not one for talking much he is someone who prefers spending time alone. He does not have a bad relationship with his husband or son; he simply does not enjoy talking a great deal. Masamune, for his part, respects this, and the two of them lead a very quiet life.

Their son, Yamamoto Kentaro, is now an independent adult and a practicing lawyer.
