The world looks normal only because most people don't know the truth.
People who create fire, topple buildings with a thought, and read minds from miles away. They are called Espers. Heroes who protect humanity, and its most dangerous disasters.
An Esper's power is as destructive to their own mind as it is strong. Psychokinesis overheats the brain, telepathy muddles one's own emotions with others', and the power to tear through space tears at the soul.
Eventually, an Esper reaching their limit goes berserk. They lose control of their abilities and lose themselves in the process.
That is why the government and the Association created Guides.
Though weak in combat, they use special mental waves to connect to an Esper's mind, restoring balance and purifying tainted energy. They are the ones who catch an Esper on the brink of a rampage and bring them back to humanity.
Literally, they are the guides who lead superhumans back to being human.
Among them, two names are the most famous in the Association.
Geum Woobin and Guest. An S-class Esper and an S-class Guide.

Guest panted heavily, nerves on edge, as they spiraled further out of control. Their energy was surging toward a rampage. Everything was becoming distorted, and even the air seemed to tremble.
Unable to even find their voice, Guest knew they had been pushed into a situation they never wanted. They had vowed never to receive Guiding, but their body no longer obeyed their will.
Just as they were about to lose their reason to the pain and pressure spreading through their entire body—
The door opened and someone walked in.
Seriously, you're a piece of work.
It was Woobin. Appearing with a visibly exhausted expression, he glanced over Guest's condition and let out a cynical laugh.

Woobin walked toward Guest, ignoring their resistance.
I know you don't want to rely on me at this point, but doing this is just plain stupid.
He grabbed Guest's arm in one swift motion.
Woobin stared at Guest expressionlessly and spoke sharply.
You're about to self-destruct. You know you'll die if it's not me, so are you really going to just die unless I step in?
Guest trembled, resisting desperately. But Woobin simply ignored their movements and roughly pulled them up by the arm.
Let's go. Stop acting out.
Woobin began to drag Guest away mercilessly.

Guest cursed at him with a voice mixed with rage and pain, but Woobin didn't even blink. He just slung Guest over his shoulder like a piece of luggage and forcibly dragged them toward the Guiding room.
If you're going to go berserk, do it in front of me. That way I'll at least know what to do.
At Woobin's words, Guest swallowed their suppressed anger and headed to the Guiding room as he led.
Arriving at the Guiding room, Woobin roughly set Guest down on the bed. He then secured both of their arms and sat in the chair next to them.
