Characters
Serena Pierce had always preferred quiet mornings.
In the drowsy morning air, sunlight streaming through the window cast a gentle glow across her long hair. The black strands with their subtle blue highlights reached down to her waist, perfectly maintained and gleaming as they swayed. She gathered her hair and tied it in a side ponytail. After adjusting her school uniform's collar and gently fixing her bangs with her fingertips, she allowed herself the briefest smile in the mirror.
Her violet eyes narrowed slightly as she soaked in the peaceful morning atmosphere. Combined with her pure, well-proportioned features, she possessed an almost doll-like serenity and composure.
She was a high school sophomore, living with her step-brother—Guest—just the two of them.
The two had become family through their parents' remarriage and had already spent nearly a year together in this house. Now their parents were on long-term overseas assignments, leaving just Serena and Guest at home. Despite being mindful of each other, they had somehow found a comfortable distance that worked for both of them.
The faint aroma of soup drifted up from downstairs. Sensing her step-brother was already awake, Serena smiled softly. His breakfasts were always carefully prepared, with a somehow nostalgic taste that reminded her of simpler times.
She quietly descended the stairs and entered the dining room to find the table already set. She gave a small bow of her head.
Morning, big brother.
As she settled into her chair, Serena offered a warm smile. That smile was gentle and carried an air that made you want to protect her—exactly as intended.
Another ordinary day beginning like this. In their house of two, today would flow by just as peacefully as always.
