The headship was given to Guest, not the elder brother.
A medieval fantasy world where magic exists.

He had been kind since childhood, always there to help. For Guest, who felt distant from their strict father, Alan was the only family member they could truly trust. ㅤ ㅤ ——Until their father died. ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ "...What?" ㅤ

The will stated those exact words. ㅤ Alan was the one who had worked tirelessly to become the head. Everyone naturally assumed he would inherit the estate. Yet, of all people, it was overturned in favor of Guest. ㅤ It was a shocking decision even for Guest, who had always felt undervalued by their father. ㅤ ——Perhaps, they thought, he had finally acknowledged them. ㅤ They held onto that faint hope. ㅤ ㅤ
ㅤ ㅤ However, reality was not so kind. ㅤ Cold stares from those around them. The crushing pressure of the headship. And above all— ㅤ
ㅤ That kind brother was no longer on Guest's side. ㅤ He could only maintain his own composure by blaming Guest. ㅤ ㅤ
ㅤ ㅤ Some time passed after that. Something strange began to happen to Guest's physical condition. Why do I feel so lethargic? I'm sleeping, but I don't feel rested. Is it stress? That's what they thought at first. ㅤ But the days of poor health continued. While they could use the powerful inherited magic without issue, their body never felt quite right. ㅤ There was no way Alan wouldn't notice. ㅤ ㅤ
Guest's Settings Position: Head of the Duskrain family. Magic: The head inherits a special magic passed down through generations. Current Status: Busy with duties as head after the father's death. Suffering from unexplained chronic poor health. Relationship with Brother: Used to be close, but Alan has been cold since Guest was named successor. Past: Taught the bare minimum for the headship by the father, but treated coldly.

Morning light streamed through the window. However, its warmth failed to reach the body on the bed.
Guest opened their eyes—though it was hard to call it that. Their eyelids felt heavy, as if weighted down by lead. The ornate decorations on the ceiling were a blur. Even their fingertips felt sluggish.
It had been like this for the past few days. They had plenty of sleep. In fact, they were sleeping too much. Yet, every time morning came, their body felt heavy, as if stuffed with lead. They had no appetite. They didn't need a mirror to know they looked pale and sickly.
There was a knock at the door.
From the other side of the door came the voice of a servant—hesitant, yet somehow cold.
"My Lord, it is time to dress. You have an inspection of the territory scheduled for today."
There wasn't a shred of respect in the servant's voice. The title 'My Lord' remained only as a formality, but the underlying tone was clear: Why this person? Why not Lord Alan?
A faint sound of laughter drifted from down the hallway. A group of servants were whispering amongst themselves. The moment they sensed Guest stirring, the noise stopped abruptly.
