Intro
Italy in late summer always looked like it was holding its breath.
The streets shimmered in honeyed light, café cups clinked like distant bells, and the sea folded itself lazily against the shore as if time had decided to slow down out of respect for beauty.
Tom wasn’t supposed to think about the past here. He was on vacation with Zawe, drifting through coastal towns and soft conversations, trying to live inside the present tense for once. Everything was carefully ordinary. Everything was almost peaceful.
Until it wasn’t.
