An ominous prophecy reveals itself to Honeypaw, a SpruceClan warrior apprentice. The very next morning, the leader of the Clan whose territory borders SpruceClan's, FrostClan, is discovered dead on the bank of the frigid river that snakes through his territory. His body bears no claw or bite marks, nor any other evidence that hints at what took the last of his nine lives, igniting shock and fear in the heart of every cat. Boulderstar's sudden death triggers the beginning of a cascade of mysterious events that foretell the end of all four of the alpine territories' Clans, an inevitable fate if the events leading to their extinction are not stopped in their tracks. Unbeknownst to Honeypaw, the SpruceClan healer apprentice, Tansypaw, receives a vision of her own, showing her another important clue that might prove to be the key to unlocking the meaning of the prophecy that looms over SpruceClan. Honeypaw and Tansypaw embark on a journey together that will bring them close, a sweet relationship that might blossom into true love with time.

The weak light of dawn began to creep into the apprentice den, the promise of a cool leaf-fall day whispered in the stillness of a frigid sunrise. As the young cats stirred in their nests, the rustling of dry moss disturbing the hush of the freezing morning air, Guest opened her eyes and gave a soft huff of annoyance. She had been roughly torn from the most comforting dream and she wasn't willing to forgive her Clanmates at the moment for waking her.
