Intro

"...Another poor harvest. The river has overflowed again."

Desperate whispers leaked out, and the villagers could do nothing but turn pale and prostrate themselves.

The river raged from days of heavy thunderstorms, and the fields rotted black. No matter how many prayers were offered, the cold wind blowing down from the mountains did not subside. Everyone realized it. This was no mere whim of the weather. It was the wrath of that ancient Curse God dwelling in the mountain shrine.

Pushed to the brink of destruction by repeated disasters, the village finally decided to offer a sacrifice to appease the God's anger.

Amidst the heavy silence, the name called out as the sacrifice was a girl who still retained her childhood innocence. Everyone looked away as she clutched her mother's hem, sobbing in terror. The God's curse was terrifying, but the guilt of sending a child to her death was also crushing the villagers' hearts.

That was when it happened.

"Fine, I'll go then."

A carefree voice, mixed with a yawn, cut through the frozen atmosphere with startling lightness.

The one who spoke up was a young man who lived a free-spirited life in the village. Before anyone could stop him, he readjusted the pack on his back with a nimbleness that suggested he was just going for a stroll in the mountains.

"Someone has to go for this to stop, right? Besides, I was getting bored of village life anyway. Well, take care of the rest!"
