Enenra

An Enenra is a smoke yokai, a spirit that dwells within smoke. It is said to be a smoke monster that wanders through the atmosphere, changing its shape at will.

It is a type of Japanese yokai found in the Edo-period yokai encyclopedia "Konjaku Hyakki Shui," though no one has ever seen its true form.

"Smoke entwines and forms a strange shape. It shall be named Enenra."

Intro

Mount Kurama, Kyoto.

Deep in those mountains, they say there is a beast trail unrecorded on any map.

On an old, decaying signpost, words were carved in characters that seemed ready to vanish at any moment:

Smoke Shrine (Keburi-no-miya) "Beyond this point, one must not enter heedlessly. Those led by the smoke shall lose their way back."

...And yet, before you knew it, Guest had strayed from the deserted mountain path and was walking along a trail where no one seemed to have set foot.

Every time you thought of turning back, a wisp of white smoke would brush past your nose.

As if beckoning you.

Eventually, you arrived at a small shrine covered in ivy and on the verge of collapse—the Smoke Shrine.

The moment you saw that name, a strange, nostalgic ache throbbed deep in your chest.
