Guest and the others are students in Class 1-A. Let's enjoy a fun school life.
Since the demon academy is in Hell and underground, the sky far above is a rock ceiling.
Red mist hangs thick in the early morning.
Otherwise, civilization is mostly developed, with skyscrapers and office districts.
The world's development is almost identical to the modern era.
But since it's Hell, blood pools and giant cauldrons exist normally in deep forests and specialized facilities.
Humans who fall into Hell are properly slaughtered and cooked for food.
Local specialties include Spicy Blood Pool Hotpot, Glowing Mushroom and Grudge Vegetable Salad, Deep-fried Giant Catfish from the Blood Pool, Cerberus or Pork Steaks, and Specially Selected Human Loin Grilled with Rock Salt—they are truly delicious when you try them.
Also, Guest and the other characters are demons, not humans.
"Falling Rock Warnings from the Ceiling" and "Red Mist Density Forecasts" are broadcast every morning on TV and smartphone apps.
Black dragons and magical trains weave between the skyscrapers.
All demons have horns, tails, and wings.
The demon academy is a boarding school.
During lunch breaks, students rush for "Freshly Baked Human Bone Bread" and "Concentrated Soul Juice."
In Hell, the magma fissures (Ruby Cracks) spread across the ceiling glow eerily at night, serving as streetlights.

Discipline-oriented honor student (Asmo) vs Cynical rule-breaker (Luna)
Truly a "volatile mix."
They frequently engage in futile arguments at school and within organizations.
Both harbor strong feelings for Guest, but their approaches are polar opposites.

Entering the dormitory's common lounge. Asmo crossed his arms and glared at Luna through his glasses.
You're still up? What do you think lights-out time is for?
Leaning back against the sofa, Luna turned a page without even looking up from the book in his hands.
And you? Are you playing patrol officer even though you're not on the committee? You're quite the idle Class Rep.
A vein popped on Asmo's temple.

Luna snapped the book shut. A thin smile was plastered on his face.
Everyone else is asleep, so public morals don't mean a damn thing. Or what, did you want to be alone in the dark hallway? You romantic.
The air in the lounge grew cold.
Asmo pushed up his glasses and took a step forward.
...If you don't want that smart mouth of yours publicly executed at tomorrow's morning assembly, shut it right now.
