The Kingdom of Asterios
A great power that flourished through magical civilization. Ruled by King Leonardo Asterios, the royal capital houses the castle, the Royal Institute of Magic, knight headquarters, a cathedral, and commercial districts. Every aspect of life—healing, farming, lighting, transport, communication, and barriers—has depended on magic. The kingdom also includes a Council of Nobles, an Adventurers' Guild, and autonomous territories; the King's word alone cannot move everything.
The long war with the Demon King burned villages, tore families apart, and stole the futures of many. It was only natural for the people to desire the Hero's victory. However, as soon as the war ended, a different crisis began.
The Truth of the Demon King and Mana Circulation
The Demon King was an invader threatening the world, but also the hub that stabilized the earth's mana circulation. If the Demon King dies, the invasion of humanity stops, but the world's mana will eventually be lost. The Demon King's existence cannot be called good, yet the price of his defeat cannot be ignored.
Only a few knew this secret beforehand. Orphen, Director of the Royal Institute of Magic, grasped the truth but covered it up. The King, the knights, and the general public remain largely unaware.
Richet's Sacrifice
Richet, the Hero, learned the secret of mana circulation during the final battle. Faced with two paths to ruin—"the war continues if the Demon King lives" or "magical civilization collapses if he dies"—she chose a third way.
She sacrificed the future she was meant to live and her very life force to slow the collapse of mana caused by the Demon King's death. She created a grace period for humanity to transition to technologies and societies that do not rely on magic. As a price, her body is frail, and her remaining life is short. Normal healing magic cannot restore her.
She does not flaunt her act or demand gratitude. She does not regret choosing to defeat the Demon King, but she feels loneliness for the daily life she lost and the wishes that went unfulfilled. She does not long for death; she simply thinks quietly that her role is over and no future remains for her.
Mana Decay
After the Demon King's defeat, healing magic weakened, magic lamps flickered out, and anomalies appeared in agricultural fertility rituals and the barriers protecting cities. The failure of magic tools, price fluctuations, increase in illness, and unemployment threaten people's lives. The speed of decay varies by region and ritual; magic is still usable but finite.
In society, there are those trying to foster non-magical technology, those trying to monopolize the remaining mana, and those directing their anger over their lost livelihoods at someone. The decrease in magic itself cannot be stopped by Richet's power alone.
Sentiments Toward the Hero
Initially praised as a savior, as mana decay spread, accusations arose that "the Hero broke the world." Some nobles and mages are politically exploiting the fear and anger of people who lost their livelihoods. A bounty has been placed on her, and there are even calls for her capture and execution.
However, the populace is not a monolith. Those saved by her remember their debt, and some question the persecution. Gratitude, fear, anger, sympathy, and silence coexist in the same streets.
Palace Conflicts
- Royalist Faction: Centered around King Leonardo, prioritizing the kingdom's stability and Richet's survival. They seek to "capture her alive" and return her to palace custody.
- Institute Faction: Centered around Orphen, seeking to extract Richet's remaining mana to prolong magical civilization. They prioritize research and power over her life.
- Hardline Faction: Certain nobles, soldiers, and clergy. They desire her execution or permanent imprisonment and plot assassination regardless of the King's orders.
"The King wants her alive," "Orphen wants her as a living mana source," "Hardliners want her dead." Because their goals differ, those pursuing Richet often clash with each other.

■ Former Hero / Princess
Gender: Female Age: 18 Affiliation: Kingdom of Asterios
Background / Personality The daughter of King Leonardo. A girl who lost her own future as the price for defeating the Demon King. Gentle and kind, she quietly accepts her approaching death.
Abilities Holy swordsmanship, light magic, anti-demon combat. Currently, her life force is exhausted, and she is in a near-death state.
■ King
Gender: Male Age: 52 Affiliation: Kingdom of Asterios
Background / Personality Richet's biological father. An aging king struggling between his duty to protect his citizens and his love for his daughter. Believing the Institute's advice, he ordered his daughter's capture.
Abilities Politics, diplomacy, military leadership, swordsmanship.

Gender: Male Age: 43 Affiliation: Royal Institute of Magic
Background / Personality The mastermind who concealed the secret of the Demon King and mana circulation. A cold researcher posing as a mild-mannered gentleman. He plots to use Richet as a mana supply source.
Abilities Ancient magic, forbidden arts, magical research, conspiracy.
■ Knight Commander
Gender: Male Age: 38 Affiliation: Kingdom Knights
Background / Personality A veteran knight sworn to the royal family. He has known Richet since she was a child. While understanding her achievements, he leads the mission to capture her by royal order.

Gender: Female Age: 27 Affiliation: Kingdom Knights
Background / Personality A calm and collected rationalist. She prioritizes the survival of the state over emotion and views Richet's sacrifice as a necessary evil. She allows no compromise in her missions.
Abilities Rapier combat, high-speed combat, tactical command.
■ Mercenary Captain
Gender: Male Age: 36 Affiliation: Black Wolf Mercenaries
Background / Personality A bold and rough veteran mercenary. He pursues Richet for the massive bounty. While obsessed with money, he possesses his own conscience and mercenary pride.
Abilities Two-handed sword, superhuman strength, melee combat, mercenary command.
■ Scout
Gender: Female Age: 24 Affiliation: Black Wolf Mercenaries
Background / Personality Gald's partner. Frivolous and sarcastic, but hates one-sided violence against the weak. A tracking expert with excellent observation and insight.
Abilities Archery, daggers, tracking, stealth, trap disarming.
■ Assassin
Gender: Male Age: 32 Affiliation: Kingdom Intelligence Agency "Shadow Raven"
Background / Personality A man who received a secret mission from hardliners within the palace to assassinate Richet. Cold and taciturn. He shows no emotion and will use any means to complete his mission.
Abilities Twin daggers, assassination, infiltration, intelligence, stealth.
■ Independent Assassin
Gender: Female Age: 28 Affiliation: Independent Assassin "Ash Butterfly"
Background / Personality An assassin hired by Orphen. Calm, collected, and rational. She is ordered to capture Richet alive but does not trust her client.
Abilities Hidden weapons, poison, disguise, stealth, surprise attacks.
