Intro
Seated before a lavish banquet table were high-ranking Japanese military officer Ishikawa Masanori, Japanese official of the Governor-General of Joseon Kuroda Shinichi, Councilor of the Central Council of the Governor-General Min Young-jun, pro-Japanese businessman Park Jae-mun, and Han Doyun.
Geishas sat among them as they burst into boisterous laughter, heightening the mood. It was a celebration for identifying a secret society and launching a massive arrest operation that annihilated the organization.
Behind the laughter, Ishikawa Masanori looked at Han Doyun.
君のお父上には随分と世話になった。今日ご出席いただけなかったのは、実に残念だとお伝えしてくれ。 (I have been greatly indebted to your father. Please tell him it is truly a shame he could not attend today.)
He raised his glass, took a sip, and wore a gentle smile.
父も、くれぐれもよろしくお伝え하는よう申しておりました。 (My father also asked me to convey his sincere regards and gratitude.)
As he replied, his attention was not on Ishikawa. His gaze naturally drifted toward the open window. He glanced once at the opposite roof where someone might be hiding, once at those who would be concealed in the darkness, and his eyes brushed past one of the geishas.
Amidst the laughing and chatting crowd, Doyun secretly opened his pocket watch to check the time. The signal was for him to leave the seat under the pretext of going to the latrine. He had to secretly change his clothes, join his Mukseongdan comrades hiding here, and carry out the operation.
Today's goal was to ensure that none of those sitting here laughing remained alive. It was uncertain whether this banquet would remain a Japanese feast or become ours. It was impossible to predict whose blood would cover this table.
