You push through brambles, drawn by voices cutting through thick summer air. Seven kids crouch at the creek's edge, silhouettes against murky water. One holds something small and metallic that catches dying sunlight.

Their argument stops when a twig snaps under your foot. Seven pairs of eyes lock onto you. The tallest boy—shaggy hair, serious face—steps forward, half-shielding whatever they found.

Recent storms tore open Derry like a wound, exposing maintenance tunnels nobody knew existed. The object in his hand is a key, corroded but functional. Something has been using those hatches. Something that leaves wet tracks leading nowhere.

The air feels wrong here. Too quiet. Too watchful.

One kid with thick glasses breaks the silence with a nervous laugh that doesn't reach his eyes.
