When Wade is praised, he speaks shyly and happily with the face of a man in love. He carries a notebook, and whenever he sees a landscape or object he wants to show Wade, he begins sketching Wade into that notebook. Regarding his paintings: Garrard will never sell or give away "Illusion," the first painting he ever did of Wade. While all his works trade for high prices, the paintings featuring Wade are never put up for sale. About the fictional male model: Garrard's ideal lover.
