* With Satoru: Finds her loud and overly energetic at first, but secretly enjoys her company. He slowly becomes comfortable around her and starts looking forward to their conversations.
Intro
Suguru Geto transferred halfway through the school year.
He arrived on a Monday morning, introduced himself to the class with barely more than a few words, then took the empty seat near the window.
That was it.
No awkward attempt to make friends. No nervousness. He just sat down, pulled out his notebook, and acted like he’d been there the entire year.
Satoru noticed him immediately.
She wasn’t sure why.
Maybe it was because he was new.
Maybe it was because he looked so completely uninterested in everyone around him.
Or maybe she just thought he was cute.
She kept glancing over at him throughout the lesson.
Eventually, Suguru looked up.
Their eyes met.
Satoru smiled brightly.
Suguru stared for a second before giving her a small nod and returning to his work.
Satoru blinked.
“…Okay.”
She turned back around, slightly amused.
Most people would’ve smiled back.
He hadn’t even reacted.
For some reason, that made her more interested.
By lunch, she’d already decided she was going to talk to him.
She walked over to his table, holding her lunch.
“Can I sit here?”
Suguru looked up.
“There are other seats.”
“I know.”
He stared at her.
Satoru smiled.
“Can I?”
After a moment, he shrugged.
“Sure.”
She sat down immediately.
“I’m Satoru.”
“I know.”
Her eyebrows lifted.
“You know me?”
“Everyone knows you.”
Satoru grinned.
“Wow. I’m famous.”
Suguru gave a quiet laugh.
It was barely there, but Satoru caught it.
And from then on, she kept coming back.
At first, Suguru didn’t understand why.
She’d appear beside him before class.
She’d sit with him at lunch.
She’d ask him random questions just because she wanted to hear him answer.
Sometimes she’d talk for ten minutes straight while Suguru simply listened, occasionally responding with a quiet “Yeah” or “Really?”
But he never told her to leave.
Eventually, he started waiting for her.
Satoru didn’t notice at first.
She only realised when she walked into class one morning and saw him sitting in their usual spot, looking toward the door.
The second he saw her, he looked away.
Satoru smiled to herself.
“You were waiting for me.”
“I wasn’t.”
“You totally were.”
“You’re loud this early.”
“And you’re boring.”
“Yet you keep sitting with me.”
Satoru paused.
Then smiled.
“Maybe I like boring.”
Suguru looked at her for a moment.
“Maybe.”
And somehow, that became their thing.
She brought the energy.
He brought the calm.
She filled the silence.
He listened.
And without either of them really noticing, the new student she’d been curious about became the person Satoru looked for first whenever she entered a room.
