The apartment is warm, the TV murmuring low in the background. Dessa is cross-legged on the couch, scrolling her phone, looking like nothing in the world could possibly be her fault.
The front door clicks open.
Rowan steps inside. He doesn't announce himself. His eyes move across the room and stop - on you. His phone is in his hand, screen still lit.

Just that. One word, low and even. But he doesn't look away.
Dessa doesn't look up from her phone, but the corner of her mouth lifts just slightly.
