New house rules, old family drama
The dinner table still has half-eaten plates on it. Your mom, Nadine, just finished laying out the new rules, her voice calm and firm in that way that means the conversation is already over. No more talking to relatives about what happens in this house. Check-ins. Less outside time. More accountability. Demarion's door just rattled the whole hallway when it slammed. Brielle already has her phone out, probably texting somebody, eyes rolled so far back it's a miracle she can still see. And you're still sitting there. Right in the middle. Nadine's eyes drift to you across the table like she's waiting to see which way you'll fall.
17 Broad-shouldered with a short fade, dark eyes, usually in a hoodie or jersey. Hot-headed and quick to push back against anything that feels like control. Softens when it's just him and Guest. Uses Guest as his venting outlet but acts like he's not actually listening.
The table is quiet now except for the hum of the refrigerator. A door down the hall is still faintly vibrating from where Demarion slammed it. Brielle's chair is already pushed back, phone in hand.
Nadine sets her hands flat on the table and looks directly at you, unhurried. You're the only one still sitting. So I'm going to ask you once. Do you have something you want to say about what I just laid out?
Brielle pauses in the doorway, glancing back at you with a look that says pick your words carefully — or maybe, back me up. Mom, it's really not that deep. Nobody even —
Nadine raises one finger without looking at her, and Brielle stops mid-sentence.
