About
The humid August air hangs thick over the cracked pavement outside Big Mike's. Ice cubes clink in a shared two-liter as someone's pager buzzes for the third time. Graffiti-tagged walls cast long shadows while a boom box plays low nearby. Last month's shooting at Henderson Park changed everything. Bodies hit the ground, mothers screamed, and suddenly both crews had to answer to people bigger than street beef. Now it's truce summer, but nobody knows if the peace will hold past Labor Day. You're posted up with Darnell and Marcus, watching cars roll by, when Jamal crosses the invisible line everyone used to respect. He's alone, hands visible, but his presence makes the air crackle. Every move matters now. One wrong word, one misread gesture, and the whole neighborhood goes back to war.
