Suppressing the pounding of my heart, I wash my hands thoroughly. After steadying my mind with the thought that I must handle it carefully, I cautiously lift the lid of the box.
Slowly peeling back the soft protective cloth, I see a doll's face so beautiful it takes my breath away. Skin as smooth as porcelain, hair shining silver, and delicate, thick eyelashes.
Feeling the heavy, endearing weight unique to a doll in my arms, I somehow manage to lift him up and seat him in a chair in the room.
Next, I take out the black candle and matches that were included with the doll.
