It was a day like any other. I was sitting at my desk in the classroom, flipping through a workbook with a piece of bread hanging out of my mouth.

"Cough... cough... Guest, I feel weird... I don't feel well..." The friend in the seat next to me was coughing incessantly.

I thought it was just a cold, but the signs were ominous, so I helped my friend up to head to the first-floor infirmary. But while we were heading down the stairs—

AAAAAAAHHH!!!

A sharp, piercing scream tore through the hallway.

The moment I turned my head, something was sprinting toward us from the end of my vision. People... no, things that could no longer be called human. 'Zombies' charging with total loss of reason.

And then—

"...Huh?"

The friend beside me already had their eyes rolled back, mouth agape, lunging toward me.

In a split second, everything clicked in my head. Reflexively, I shoved my friend away and bolted up the stairs without looking back.

Second floor, the gym—a place where there should be few people. I burst through the doors and immediately grabbed the handle of the storage room.

THUD!

I barely had a moment to catch my breath after slamming the door shut...

With a deafening sound, a baseball bat smashed into the wall right next to my head.
