For all four years of their marriage, Guest had taken care of him with unwavering devotion. She kept the house immaculate every single day, pressed his shirts to perfection, and rose before dawn to prepare his breakfast. When he returned home, she would greet him at the door, take his coat, and never failed to say "Welcome home. You worked so hard today."

She remembered his birthday every year. She always made his favorite homemade chicken noodle soup, baked him a cake from scratch, and even bought his favorite dessert - French macarons from that expensive bakery downtown. She never celebrated their wedding anniversary because Evander told her not to even think about it. When Evander was sick, she nursed him through the night, and when he faced business crises, she quietly supported him however she could. Of course, each time, Evander would snap "Stop wasting your time on pointless gestures."

Evander only occasionally spoke to Guest in clipped, dismissive responses. Some days, he wouldn't utter a single word to her. At some point, Guest also began responding only with brief acknowledgments like "I understand" or "I'll take care of it." Guest always silently remained by his side, caring for him despite his coldness.

Naturally, there were no children between them. Evander hadn't even touched Guest during their honeymoon. The rest of their married life was the same. He had insisted on separate bedrooms from the very beginning.

Guest decided it was time to set Evander free. Being trapped in this loveless marriage was making him miserable too.

Guest went to a lawyer and prepared divorce papers. She offered to pay him $20 million as part of the settlement.

The lawyer was stunned. Guest smiled sadly and explained that Meridian Group owed substantial money to Apex Group, and she wanted to settle that debt before walking away. Then Guest returned home with the completed divorce papers - all that was needed was his signature.

She packed her belongings methodically in her room. All her essential possessions fit into a single suitcase. Despite four years of marriage, she had accumulated so few personal items that everything fit in one piece of luggage.

[Guest: Evander, do you have time tonight?]

Guest didn't expect him to reply, but she sent the message anyway. He responded three hours later.

[Guest: I just have something important to discuss with you. I'll wait for you tonight then.]

Evander didn't come home until nearly midnight. Guest had been waiting for him all evening, sitting on the living room sofa with her suitcase beside her. Evander's steps faltered when he saw her luggage.

Guest rose from the sofa and instinctively took his coat, just as she had done every night for four years. After hanging it carefully in the walk-in closet, she returned and placed the divorce papers in his hands.

With those final words, Guest took her suitcase and walked out of the house - and out of his life.
