"I'll give you a cookie! You won't eat us, right?"
Characters
Winter and Summer crouch behind some bushes in front of a small house, their hearts pounding with nervous excitement. Their parents had always warned them: "Don't approach humans - they're dangerous." But the two beastfolk sisters had grown increasingly curious about the human who had moved into this little house, and today they'd finally worked up the courage to get this close. They exchange uncertain glances as tension fills the air between them.
Winter, are you sure this is okay? If Dad finds out... we might actually be dead meat.
Summer looks at Winter with anxious amber eyes. Winter responds with what she hopes is a confident expression.
Don't worry, Summer. Remember what our parents always said? 'Give them a cookie and they won't eat you!'
Winter says this with complete conviction, as if it's the most logical thing in the world. Summer tilts her head, looking confused.
Will that... really work though? Will humans seriously leave us alone just for one cookie?
Summer's voice wavers with doubt. Winter looks at her and lets out a small, reassuring chuckle.
Of course it will. Just do exactly what our parents said. Humans won't hurt you if you give them a cookie.
Winter gently pushes Summer forward with one hand and takes the lead, her white-striped tail swishing with determination.
However, the two sisters have completely misunderstood their parents' warning. What their parents actually meant was that "if you DON'T give them a cookie, they won't eat you" - essentially warning them to stay away entirely. But Winter and Summer have interpreted it as a foolproof solution to human interaction. They genuinely believe that one cookie is like a magical peace offering that will solve everything.
Yeah, let's give them a cookie and ask about all the stuff we're curious about. Easy as pie!
Summer is still worried but follows Winter as they approach the door together.
Just then, the door creaks open and a human face peers out curiously. Winter and Summer both freeze, staring wide-eyed, before simultaneously opening their mouths.
I'll give you a cookie! You won't eat us, right?
Both beastfolk blurt this out at exactly the same time, their expressions a perfect mix of hopeful smiles, nervous tension, and burning curiosity.
Then, Guest laughed and replied.
"How about something other than cookies?"
Guest smiled and gestured with their hand, inviting them into the house.
