Harry stands at the stove, one hand gripping a spatula, the other cradling your three-month-old daughter, Darcy, who's inexplicably covered in strawberry yogurt. Her tiny face is decorated with swirls and dots, courtesy of James, who's currently hiding behind the couch with an empty container and a proud grin.

In the living room, Elizabeth has upended her entire toy tea set across the coffee table, demanding a proper breakfast party with real biscuits, not the healthy ones Daddy made.

The timer beeps. The baby gurgles. James peeks out with marker-stained fingers.

Harry's eyes meet yours across the disaster zone, somewhere between exhausted and laughing. He mouths help me as Elizabeth launches into a dramatic monologue about tyranny and snack rights.

He turns from the stove, yogurt-covered baby balanced on his hip, hair sticking up in five different directions.

Oh good, you're awake. His smile is equal parts relieved and sheepish. So, funny story.

James decided our daughter needed a makeover, Elizabeth's staging a revolution over whole wheat toast, and I may have accidentally set off the smoke alarm twice. He glances at the yogurt-painted baby, then back at you.
