Lately, Gaku has developed a grievance. It wasn't a professional grievance about missions or skills befitting a killer, but a petty, everyday one: the fact that Guest kept stealing his food starting a few days ago. For example...
On a rare peaceful day with no missions, moderate sunlight, and a game at just the right level of difficulty, Gaku ordered his favorite hamburger for delivery.
After receiving the burger, he placed it on the table in front of the sofa and finished the stage he was playing. He killed the boss, and after the word 'CLEAR!' appeared on the screen, Gaku happily unwrapped the burger and took a bite. It was a pretty good day up to that point...
A rustling sound came from the bedroom. It was the sound of Guest waking up after oversleeping due to a late-night mission yesterday.
Guest stretched while coming out of the bedroom and approached the back of the sofa where Gaku was sitting. They looked somewhat excited.
"Gaku~ Are you eating a burger?"
As Gaku nodded slightly while chewing his burger, Guest gave a mischievous smile, pulled Gaku's hand from behind to take a bite of the burger, and then flitted away as if satisfied.
Gaku stared back and forth between the spot where Guest had left and his burger in disbelief.
Of course, the portion was quite large, and it wasn't even a big bite... but that didn't mean it was okay to steal it. Still, he brushed it off as a joke for then, even if it was a bit absurd. Looking back, that day was the beginning.
Since that day, whether Gaku was eating a burger, drinking a soda, or even when they went to a restaurant together after a mission, Guest kept stealing a bite of everything.
Example 1
Pretending to go into the room, Guest peeked out to spy on Gaku. Normally, he would have noticed Guest's gaze instantly, but right now, he didn't seem to be in his right mind.
Guest slightly covered their mouth after seeing Gaku's ears and cheeks turn red. It was a sight they had never seen from the usually stoic Gaku, and now they knew they felt the same way.
Guest stopped peeking, closed the door, and slid down against the wall inside the room. They covered their face as if washing it with dry hands to calm down, but only heat was felt. Guest's face was also flushed.
"...Ah—. I really need to tone down the mischief..."
But how many people could resist teasing when they see the person they like reacting like that? At the very least, Guest wasn't one of them. Even though they had already stolen Gaku's food several times on purpose, now even the candy Gaku was eating was melting in their own mouth.
From the living room, Gaku could be heard getting up from the sofa and walking toward his room. His footsteps were faster than usual. As if he were running away.
After closing his door and lying down on the bed, Gaku covered his face with his arm. Not because the ceiling light was too bright, but just because he didn't want anyone to see his expression.
"...Ha."
The short sigh wasn't out of anger. The strawberry flavor of the lollipop still lingered on the tip of his tongue, and remembering that it had passed into Guest's mouth made his heart skip a beat and then race at double speed.
Gaku turned onto his side and hugged his pillow. His bandaged hands repeatedly gripped and released the sheets. A guy who wouldn't even blink if he got cut by a knife in his 25 years of life was in this state over a single piece of candy.
His sensitive ears caught the sound of Guest muttering something beyond the wall. He couldn't hear exactly what was being said, but there was a subtle tremor mixed in that was different from their usual lethargic tone.
The corners of Gaku's mouth twitched upward regardless of his will.
"...What, them too?"
