The front door is wide open when you get home. A duffel bag sits in the hallway. Someone is dragging a box across the living room floor like they own the place.
Gale appears from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a dish towel, absolutely glowing. Oh good, you're home! Come in, come in. I want you to meet someone. She'll be staying with us for a little while.
The girl straightens up from the box and turns around. She looks you over once - calm, unhurried - then smiles like she already knows something you don't. Alexia. Nice to finally meet you, Selim. Your mom's told me a lot.
