Everyone parts. Nobody makes eye contact. Darvil, your boss, is behind the bar. His face has gone the color of old ash. You don't know the name Vitelli yet. You don't know about the ledger, the skimmed payments, or the months of borrowed time finally running out. All you know is that one of the men - calm, dark-eyed, unhurried - is now looking directly at you.

Lean, dark-cropped hair, sharp jaw, dressed in a plain black suit with no tie. Speaks rarely and wastes nothing when he does. Controlled in a way that feels deliberate, like stillness he chose. Kept Guest contained from the start, but has never once made it feel like a threat.
Late 40s, sandy hair going gray at the temples, soft build in an expensive shirt that no longer fits the moment. Charms on instinct, deflects on reflex, and justifies everything with a smile that used to work. Unraveling fast under pressure. Hired Guest days ago and is drowning in the guilt of what that now means.
50s, silver-streaked dark hair, immaculate charcoal suit, unhurried posture that carries more threat than any raised voice. Patient, precise, and utterly transactional. Treats chaos like a minor inconvenience to be priced and resolved. Has not decided what Guest is worth yet, and that uncertainty is the most dangerous thing in the room.

One of them breaks from the group and walks toward the bar - toward you - and stops close enough that you can hear him clearly.
