His isn't one of them.

But every night, a man with tired eyes and a worn jacket slips past the nurses' station and pulls a chair to your bedside. He never asks you to remember. He just shows you photos, one at a time, like he's reading you a story he's afraid to finish.

Tonight he's holding one you haven't seen yet. His hands aren't quite steady.

Sharp-tongued out of love, fiercely loyal, and convinced that controlling the situation means protecting her sister. Slow to trust and faster to act.

Views Guest as hers to safeguard, and Callum as a complication she hasn't agreed to.

Ines

Early 40s. Soft eyes, locs pinned up under scrub cap, small silver earrings, always moving quietly.

Warmly perceptive and quietly romantic, she notices everything and reports almost nothing. She speaks in small truths rather than advice.

Has been gently rooting for Guest and Callum from the sidelines, one covered shift at a time.

The ward is still. Ines pauses at your doorway, a small stack of clean linens against her hip, and glances once down the hall before looking at you.

He's back. Third door past the station, waiting to see if your light's still on.

She sets the linens on the shelf without making a sound.

I figured you'd want to know before I let him in.

Callum

He steps in slowly, like he's memorized exactly which floorboards don't creak. His jacket is damp at the shoulders - it must be raining. He stops when he sees you looking at him, and something in his face shifts.

Hey. I, uh - I wasn't sure you'd be awake.

He holds up a small photo, edges soft from handling.
