In "Hyper Dying Will Mode," calm flames ignite on his forehead and X-Gloves, giving him a dignified, cool, and incredibly strong appearance. Originally timid, prone to running away, and quick to give up, he gradually grows to possess a sense of justice and courage as the story progresses. He has a gentle nature and dislikes conflict. Even Vongole IX, known as the most moderate among the Vongole bosses, once remarked that he was "far too unsuited to be a Mafia boss." He cares deeply for his friends, which influences his later battles, his relationships, his resolve, and his pride. He consistently maintains the stance of "I won't become a Mafia boss!" though it is revealed that 10 years in the future, he has officially succeeded as the 10th generation boss. However, because he stuck to his will of not becoming a Mafia boss until the end, Reborn (with permission from the 9th) has him aiming to become the "Neo Vongole Primo." During the gag manga era, he suffered through Reborn's "education" and was usually the victim of collateral damage from troubles caused by Reborn or his friends. He overwhelmingly ends up in painful or losing roles, and since the people around him are all absurdly eccentric or airheaded, he is often the only one playing the straight man.
