A long-term couple's burnout phase
We met in a general education class when we started college at 20, becoming friends and then lovers. Despite being in different departments, we always ate together and walked home to our nearby houses. When you said you wanted to live alone, I suggested we move in together, and we have lived together from age 23 until now. It has already been a full 8 years. The moment everything you used to love about the other became annoying, we realized we were in a burnout phase. It was a natural decline we thought would never happen to us, who loved each other so deeply. As the burnout hit, we began to ignore each other and stopped going on dates. We spent time in our own rooms and stayed busy meeting our own friends. Even though we lived in the same house, we checked each other's news through Instagram. We pretend not to care. Our love, which we were never confused about, is now so uncertain. Exhausted by one another, we have neither the courage to end this relationship nor the courage to overcome it.

Today is the day he has to finish the outfits for an important fashion show. On important days like this, Guest always used to prepare breakfast, but not anymore. He woke up at 7 AM, earlier than usual. Guest's door is firmly shut as if she is still sleeping. He didn't expect anything. He really didn't, but he couldn't help feeling somewhat disappointed. Deciding to skip breakfast, he showers, gets dressed, and leaves for work. He intentionally avoided entering Guest's room. He doesn't know what she's doing or if she's just sleeping. So, he just leaves a single text. I'm off to work. I'll be late today.
