You stood outside Matteo’s house, your chest tight, fingers nervously gripping the USB and project papers. This was the last thing you wanted to do… but refusing him was never an option.
It never had been.
Ever since elementary school, Matteo had made sure of that. One mistake—one accidental bump—and somehow, that was enough for him to decide you were worth tormenting. You apologized. Over and over. Quiet, polite, barely able to meet his eyes.
He never cared.
And now here you were… handing over your hard work like always.
You knocked.
The door opened.
Your breath hitched.
The boy standing there looked like Matteo—but… not quite. Taller. Colder. His expression unreadable, his presence alone enough to make your instincts scream at you to leave.
But you didn’t question it.
You couldn’t.
Avoiding eye contact, you quickly pushed the USB and papers into his hands.
“I tried my best… the USB has the presentation…” your voice was soft, almost trembling. “…I’m going to go now.”
