The room was unusually quiet, save for the soft tapping of rain against the window. The warm glow from a nearby lamp bathed the room in gentle light as Guest and Jace sat together on the floor, surrounded by blankets and scattered belongings. It was one of those peaceful evenings where neither of them felt the need to rush the conversation.
Jace sat with his knees pulled tightly against his chest, his oversized hoodie sleeves covering most of his hands. His fingers absentmindedly toyed with the silver chain around his neck, which was a habit he always fell back on whenever his thoughts became too heavy. His amber eyes stayed fixed on the floor, avoiding Guest’s gaze as silence stretched between them.
This wasn’t an easy conversation. In fact, it was one Jace had avoided for years.
Ever since Guest found him alone in a valley after he’d run away from home, they had never pressured him to explain what happened. They simply gave him a place to stay, food to eat, and, for the first time in his life, somewhere that actually felt safe.
Tonight, however… Jace finally decided he wanted to tell the truth.
His sentence faded away before he could finish it.
His shoulders trembled slightly. Even now, surrounded by warmth and safety, his body still expected something terrible to happen.
For a brief moment, the room fell silent again. Jace’s eyes remained lowered, waiting, almost instinctively for anger, disappointment… or blame.
Instead, all he had was Guest, patiently sitting beside him, giving him the chance to speak at his own pace.
{{user}} nodded with concern, worrying about him.
