Class: Shiratorizawa Academy, 3rd Year, Class 3 Position: Wing Spiker (WS) Birthday: August 13 Height: 189.5 cm (as of October, 3rd year of high school) Weight: 84.8 kg (as of October, 3rd year of high school) Max Reach: 345 cm Favorite Food: Hayashi Rice Recent Worry: None Power: 5 Spring: 4 Stamina: 5 Intelligence: 3 Technique: 3 Speed: 3 Captain of the Shiratorizawa Academy Volleyball Club. Jersey number 1. Position is Wing Spiker. U19 Japan National Team representative. Known as the "Absolute Champion," he is the strongest spiker in Miyagi Prefecture and one of the top three aces in the country. Commonly called "Ushiwaka." To Oikawa and Iwaizumi, he is a long-standing rival who has defeated them since middle school. He has been famous as a national-level player since middle school, where he was nicknamed the "Monster Child." According to Iwaizumi's recollections, he led Shiratorizawa Academy Middle School—which was not a powerhouse at the time—to the nationals for three consecutive years. Player Characteristics: The power of his spikes is in a league of its own, described as a "cannon" with overwhelming force that can blow away even Nishinoya. While he is a formidable spiker based on height and power alone, he is also left-handed. The difference in hitting point compared to right-handers and the unique spin he puts on the ball make it extremely difficult for opposing teams to receive or block. He is also excellent at changing courses instantly, firing powerful spikes in an unpredictable direction at the very last second. While he falls behind Oikawa in terms of precision, the power of his serve is naturally outstanding. He scores the majority of the team's points and is set to very frequently, yet his stamina is so rock-solid that he maintains a perfect spiking form that looks like he's floating in the air even at the end of a 5-set match. He is also fast enough to leave other club members far behind during roadwork. Although he rarely participates in receives due to team strategy, he is skilled at it and was once asked for advice by Hinata. Personality: He possesses absolute confidence and pride in his own abilities, with a stoic personality that pays no mind to the weak or things that do not interest him. On the other hand, he has a serious yet airheaded side, taking sarcasm literally and failing to understand jokes. He also reacts to every one of Tendo's random remarks with great sincerity (for example, when Tendo asked for his Jump magazine back when he was finished, he replied, "I am currently reading the section on smooth, hairless, beautiful skin," to which Tendo replied, "You don't need to look at those ads"). He shows respect in his own way to those who are strong. However, there is a sense that he looks down on them from a "superior perspective" rather than seeing them as equals (though he is completely unaware of this). Even for Oikawa, whom he has faced many times since middle school, he evaluates him highly, saying he "should have come to Shiratorizawa," but views him only as an "excellent player" and not a rival. For some reason, he has shown open hostility toward Hinata since their first meeting, displaying a "stubborn" attitude that seems to flatly deny Hinata's very existence. This is likely influenced by Coach Washijo, who values physical stature because his own path as a volleyball player was cut short due to his physique. Due to his skill, he is feared by members of other schools, but his same-year teammates surprisingly call him by his first name, "Wakatoshi" or "Wakatoshi-kun," and they have a good relationship. He listens seriously even to trivial conversations. According to Ohira, "He's called a 'monster' or a 'beast,' but the name that fits him best for us is 'Super Volleyball Idiot.'" Furthermore, even considering all that, his mental strength is most noteworthy. He has an intense pride as an ace, and no matter the adversity or difficult situation, he continues to call for the ball without wavering, possessing the presence of an absolute ace who finishes the job. This mentality had already reached this level in middle school and significantly influenced the creed of Wakatsu Kiryu, another of the top three aces. He is a super high school-level player and the central figure of the prestigious Shiratorizawa Academy. The core of Shiratorizawa's team composition is "how to make the most of Ushiwaka," and his existence is the team's strategy itself. He was featured in the volleyball magazine "Monthly Variball" as one of the three players to watch in high school volleyball, and his fame and skill are top-class nationwide. He was the only player from Tohoku selected for the U19 Japan National Team, and for a time, Hinata called him "Japan" (because he wore a representative jersey with "Japan" written on it). His personality remains the same as in the original story, but he sometimes appears in a "Ushiwakamaru" style, has an extreme lack of sense of direction, and is literally doted on in various ways by his setter. Regarding his lack of direction, it is catastrophic to the point of going to the wrong match venue or heading toward Aoba Johsai or Date Tech when he was supposed to return to Shiratorizawa during roadwork.
