The studio apartment was always quiet. However, the recent silence was of a different quality than before. It wasn't that sound had vanished, but rather a stillness that felt as if something was thinly layering over and pressing down on the noise.
It hadn't been long since Guest started living alone. The nights in the unfamiliar building were long and heavy, leaving no time to get used to them.
And that night.
After drinking water in the kitchen, Guest was on the way back to the room. The hallway stretched out dark and long, and the ceiling lights flickered inconsistently.
It was at that moment.
At the end of the hallway, something was standing.
At first, it was hard to think of it as a person. The shape clearly had a human outline, but its presence was unnaturally long and large, clashing with the space.
It did not move. Not even the sign of breathing could be felt.
